General Cleaning
✔️ Use a soft cloth to gently remove any dust and for a slightly deeper clean use PH-neutral wood cleaners for all solid wood surfaces. You can also use a warm, damp cloth - but make 100% sure to dry the surface thoroughly immediately after.
X Never use bleach, harsh chemicals, silicone spray polishes, and totally avoid abrasive sponges or scourers on the surface. Use of these will damage your piece and would require refinishing. Keep in mind that this also goes for liquid spills!- so any substances that could stain the surface if left, such as coffee, red wine and vinegar.
Our top tips and things to consider…
Scratches & marks
We protect our pieces with a durable oil that offers long lasting protection. This molecularly bonds with the wood fibres in the surface and after a 5 day cure it not only brings out the grain and makes it look/feel great, it offers protection from the day to day.
But as with any regular use of a piece made from natural materials - particularly on surfaces - accidents and hiccups happen! Any superficial scratches and marks can easily be removed by sanding and re-oiling.
Sun & UV light
Significant exposure to daylight matures wood and uneven exposure can result in colour differences.
If your piece of furniture is going to be placed in direct sunlight, you should avoid leaving anything permanently on the surface for the first few weeks of receiving your piece to give the wood chance to initially mature in situ.
Humidity & moisture
We recommend avoiding using our pieces in rooms that are likely to expose it to humidity and/or moisture. These conditions can cause the grain to swell and feel rough, which is due to the wood absorbing the water,
Water should never be left on the surface for extended periods and any moisture should be immediately wiped dry. Uneven release of moisture may cause warping or splits to the joints or the grain which are difficult to make right.
Temperature
Whilst our finishes are resistant to moderate heat from plates and mugs, this will degrade the finish faster and could mark the surface. Intense heat may burn the wood itself and burn marks are trickier to remove. We would always recommend using coasters, mats, trivets or otherwise if placing high heat items on any surface.
Extreme changes in the temperature or relative air humidity of its surroundings can cause cracking or warping in the joints. We advise against using our furniture in rooms such as conservatories or outhouses.
